I sort of have a weird question for you - if you had to remove one player from (any of your teams) & add any player you want back to them, who would you pick?
uhh so i'm gonna answer this as calmly as i can bc i'm literally shaking right now
fraser minten is not currently on the leafs roster and that has me really concerned as his number one fanboy so completely erasing every answer that i had in my mind fraser minten back to the leafs please immediately what the fuck
if we're talking actual, like. well thought out answers, i'm struggling to come up with anything because the leafs are a failure of a team that can't have a patch with just one person, yknow?
like. okay. let's kick mr44 and take hronek or zadorov. both are large players, both are capable of scoring and playmaking, both are capable of being physical. but both also take (respectfully) ridiculous penalties. the leafs have proven time and time again that they're incapable of putting together even a passable penalty kill and our special teams were fucking laughable during the playoffs. you can't say that replacing your top/two defensemen with one or two great players is going to fix the team.
and like, this could be broken down into two parts - mr44 is still out scoring and out assisting both of them. but he's also got a dogshit attitude that comes out at very (in)convenient times, and that concerns me. what is he saying when we can't hear him? what is he doing when we can't see him? that crosscheck and subsequent suspension seriously colored my opinion of him, and he's wearing a fucking A!!!
he's also slow as hell on the ice, he's fucking trash specifically on special teams, he can't analyze a play when he's by himself worth shit, he wastes full entire minutes standing behind the goaltender completely wasting power play opportunities and he has since fucking november. and he has no fucking excuse re: ice time because 222 have spent more time on the ice than he has during the 23/24 season. you're not being overworked, mo, you're just not good enough at your job.
and you could say a lot of nz91's success has specifically happened because he's on the canucks, he's supported by a very talented and a very healthy (vibes) team. sure, but like. the canucks have not always been that way and i really don't think you can flower power your way into creating a beast of a defenseman, much less a d core like the canucks have. tyler myers AND nikita zadorov AND carson soucy AND quinn hughes AND ian cole AND filip hronek like the math just isn't mathing. vibes are not sustaining this team alone like it is individual talent as well. it really has to be both. you have to have talent AND vibes. you have to have a healthy work environment AND incredibly talented people on the ice.
so like, in a perfect world, mr44 would have been gone like four years ago. replace him with someone from the canucks d, and we'd be golden. but there's a much deeper issue in toronto than just hockey players bad, so i don't think it would do anything constructive.
other options include:
replace ilya samsonov with pyotr kochetkov because we need Someone Else
replace john tavares with matty beniers, get mk23 back together with his olympics boyfriend for the lols
replace john tavares with seth jarvis, get me my personal babygirl for the lols
#i love sammy but... bye babe#asks#answered#anonymous#nhl#leafs#long post#jayposting#this turned into mr44 haterism sorry#nhl ask#hockey ask#toronto maple leafs ask#vancouver canucks ask

Tiger & Bunny Justice Week: NHK Broadcast
This is Hero TV Live! We are now getting closer to the first annual Justice Week. This week will celebrate the anime, Tiger & Bunny. This was thought up by fans to celebrate. The official is that this week will last from April 1 to 8. But since the day after the 8 is Easter Sunday, for this year, we will have an extra day. I hope you're all excited for what this celebration. I know I am.
First, let's see what the Sterbild Heroes are up to. They could be doing anything, folks. Remember, April 1 is not only the first day, it's also April Fool's Day.
First up, the team of Golden Rose.
>The scene now showed a live feed of Golden Ryan and Blue Rose in the break room.
>Blue Rose opens refrigerator and screams to see a snake in it. But when she gets a closer look, she saw it was only a rubber snake.
April Fools!
(sorry if the image is too small, you know the policy) That did get me a bit. I thought it was real.
Golden Ryan: (proudly) Yeah, I'm awesome!
>Golden Ryan sits down and opens a box of cookies that he believed came from a fan. But when he does...
Golden Ryan: (freaking out) AHH! Spider! Spider! Spider! Spider! Spider!
>But when he looks closer, he saw that the "spiders" were actually spider-shaped cookies with a blue rose with them.
Blue Rose: (laughing) April Fools!
Golden Ryan: (also laughing) That's a good one! I never would have thought of that one.
Mario: Sounds like fun. Now let's check on Origami Bison.
>In the training room, Origami Cyclone and Rock Bison were doing some minute training before going to the celebration. (Pretend their faces are blurred out to protect their identities.) Bison was opening his water bottle when it suddenly sprouted flowers from the opening.
Happy April Fools Day, Bison.
(he may not look like it, but he is laughing) Ha! Ha! That's a pretty good one.
>Origami opened his bag to get his shuriken. But when he opened it, he squealed to find a giant cockroach inside. But it turned out to be a plastic one that was playing La Cucaracha.
Rock Bison: (laughing loudly) April Fools!
Origami Cyclone: (breathing heavily) Oh. That gave me a few grey hairs.
Mario: Who could tell? You're hair's already shiny. Now, let's see Sky Emblem.
>In waiting room, Sky High and Fire Emblem were just resting a bit. Fire had just sit down to read a book. But when they opened it, the book was completely blank except for one sentence that was repeating over and over: April Fools.
April Fools!
Not a very clever trick, but I'll take it.
Sky High: Glad to hear it.
>Sky High, who had taken off his shoes to rest, put them back on. But when he did, they made a squishing sound. He looks in to find that he shoes were filled with chocolate pudding.
Fire Emblem: (laughing a bit) April Fools.
Sky High: (also laughing) That got me good! I thought John or Jonjon got to my shoes again.
Mario: Now that was pretty sweet! Now, for Dragon Cat.
>Dragon Kid and Magical Cat were hiding behind some dividers at a restaurant when someone walks in.
Hello? I'm suppose to be meeting my daughter for lunch here.
>A waiter leads the woman to a table that's reserved. The waiter already has a dish out.
Woman: Spegette and meatballs? Well, I guess I could- (shocked) Oh my god!
>The woman jumped back when she saw it was actually worms. But when she takes a closer looks, she saw they were actually gummi worms. Then, Dragon Kid and Magical Cat come out of their hiding place.
Got you good!
Happy April Fools, Mama.
Woman: (smiling a bit) I'm not too happy with you both ganging up on me, but it was still a clever trick. Well done.
Magical Cat: Sorry. I'll make it up on you on Mother's Day.
Mario: The Gummi Worm Trick. That takes me back. I wonder what He Is Black are up to.
>He Is Thomas and Mr. Black were hiding in their manager's office under her desk. Thomas was wearing a Friday the 13th mask holding a toy chainsaw while Mr. Black was wearing a Michael Myers mask with a toy machete. Then, their manager, Carlotta Lindell, comes in.
Of course I would forget my keys. My mother always said I'd forget head if it weren't glued on.
>Carlotta just picked up her keys when Thomas and Mr. Black jump up from behind the desk, brandishing their fake weapons. Carlotta gasped a bit, then they took of their masks.
Gotcha! Happy April Fools!
... Ditto.
>Carlotta said nothing... except turned on the lights and swarm of bats dropped down on them.
Mr. Black: (freaking out and activating his powers) Holy shit!
He Is Thomas: (gasping)
>But they saw they were actually rubber bats from office's Halloween party half almost half a year ago.
Carlotta: (smiling a bit) April Fools.
Mr. Black: (chuckling nervously) I.. knew they were fake.
He Is Thomas: (doubtful) Really?
Mario: Guess that one didn't work out. Now, last, but not least, the moment you've all been waiting for... Tiger and Barnaby! ... Wait, what do you mean you can't find a live feed of them? ... Oh well, let's take a look at this car commercial they left us this morning that stars them. Let's take a look.
>At first, it looked like a simply white car driving through the hills... until a man in a zombie costume jumps up screaming.
Mario: (screaming) Oh my god!
>Then, something else appears on screen with a live feed.
Happy April Fools Day!
Mario: (almost breathless) Wow! That really got me. And I think it got a lot of our viewer as well.
Barnaby: Thanks, Mario. Just thought we'd open Justice Week with a bang.
Kotetsu: You bet. Now... we better run before Agnes comes screaming at of for that video.
Mario: Well, there you have it, folks. This is how the heroes are spending the beginning of Justice Week and there's more to come.
This is Hero TV Live!
NOTE: I'm sorry if this is coming too late and it's not on Twitter, but this is the best that I could do. I hope you all understand.
P.S. I think you know which prank video Kotetsu and Barnaby used. I decided not to actually put a link in this because it scares the shit out of me. (When I first saw it, I got so scared, I was screaming and foaming at the mouth.)
Please don't send me that link.
Let's believe HEORES.

chapter 6!!!
THE NEXT DAY
I woke up at 6 and changed into boots and jeans. so I went down stairs. "Good Morning sweetheart. How are you feeling?" John passes me a cup of coffee as I sit down. I take a sip. Ew, this sucks. I guess I made a face because John laughed. He walks to the freezer and gets out some ice cream. He scoops a big ball out and plops it in the cup of coffee. I take a sip. "Damn, that's good." He lets me finish. "Can you ride? You don't have to, but I have some horses you can learn on." I smiled. "I was on the rodeo team a while back and I thought I would ride for a few people in Helena. If you don't mind, I would like to ride. I have to go to town first. How far is the walk to the bus?" He laughed and gave a look to Rip who just walked in. "Goodmorning Evelyn, I will take you to town. Evelyn Dutton doesn't ride the bus anymore." I felt heat running to my face. I felt like a dumbass for asking to go to a bus stop. "What is in town," John asks. "I have to find work today. I am assuming wherever I go to school here, I am going to have to change my schedule too. I just need to talk to a school and get a job." John chuckles. "You aren't getting a job. You don't need to work when you are here. I have already set up your schooling. Beth and Rip went to the high school and got it set up. But one thing is for sure, no job. Got it?" I've worked since I was 11. Mom got cancer and I started riding horses and I worked at a diner. "Sir, no I am not trying to make you mad, but I have worked since I was 11. That's how I make money to buy my books. I need them." Rip grinned, "Baby, Mr. Dutton and Beth have more money than you could shake a stick at. If you are going to be my daughter, you're not going to be working for a living. Mr. Dutton and I have to go to a cattle auction, then we will take you to the store." I felt stupid. Was I supposed to know this stuff? Where did Carter get his money? I was going to have to do something to make up for this.
Rip drove quietly. John and him didn't seem like they needed to talk to be content. "Rip, can I play music?" Without saying anything he handed me the AUX cord. I looked at the playlist and picked "Guitar Picker'' by Whiskey Myers. "Listen to the cow bell!" John and Rip both shake their heads and laugh. "OH THIS PART IS MY FAVORITE! holes in my clothes, got holes in my shoes. I got a whole in my heart, that's why I'm singing the blues!" I changed the song quickly, "Famous in a Small Town" by Miranda Lambert bumps from the speakers. I sing without shame. I go through half of my playlist. "Rip, whenever and wherever we drive. She comes. I like her."
We got to the auction. Rip opens my door and I hop out. "Do you know much about cattle? We are here to get 2 good heffers. You can pick them out if you want." I get excited and hug him. I hug John. "Thank you for bringing me." They both hugged me back. I follow John into the large room. He greets everyone and sits down on the front row. I sit between them and we see the first group. "That one!" John writes her number down and makes an impressed face. "Explain to me why we want that one." I grin, "Well, she's young. She has a partner, who has the same attributes. Their back is straighter than any other in the pin. If you pair her with your bull, she will breed like crazy. I have a good feeling about her, but it's okay if you say no. They are gonna be your cattle." They both grinned. "Congratulations Evy, you just got a permanent spot. Rip and I are gonna go put a bid on her."

The 3 Reasons Dead By Daylight is Still Alive After 7yrs.
Dead by Daylight by Behaviour Interactive is a multiplayer horror asymmetric survival game. Having been around for around 7 years this game was not originally as popular as it is to date. Ryan Mikes a Dead by Daylight regular who has been playing for over 3 years states: “I don’t consider myself a multiplayer gamer. I usually stick to my lane of single player based games. Dead By Daylight is an exception, however. As someone who’s usually socially anxious, I prefer smaller groups, which also means smaller in-game teams. DBD’s four-man group dynamic scratches this itch, encouraging close-knit teamwork and communication, but with enough simplicity to not overwhelm me with detail or complicated control schemes.” Bubbuhmeister a.k.a. Ryan Mikes has been playing this game for over 2,000 hours within the last 3 years. With many aspects to this game Ryan Mikes mentioned the 3 reasons Dead by Daylight has been successful for the past 7 years in an interview. These reasons include but are not limited to: constant updates, goals, and appealing to the horror fans.
Constant Updates:
The game Dead By Daylight by Behaviour Interactive has stayed relevant and popular for seven years. This company has got to include many well known Horror icons in their game. These can range from the notorious Michael Myers and Laurie Strode from the 1978 Halloween movie by John Carpenter to Resident Evil characters. “Dead by Daylight is a thrilling asymmetrical horror experience that will keep new players on their toes while providing more seasoned gamers with constant updates, features to keep gameplay fresh, and interesting Perks to change how you approach a particular match.” (Thompson-Powell, 2023) Behaviour has also kept a Fornite like battle pass for their gamers which they refer to as a Rift. With the Rift there are both free prizes and paid for prizes (as shown below.) Keeping constant updates and new creative ideas, the player base has much to anticipate for years to come. “It is always exciting to see what the developers have planned for their year-round drops; their deepened lore with each new chapter and tome.” (Ryan Mikes, 2023) There are also many events ranging from the Chinese New Year to their own personal Anniversary event to keep new cosmetics, challenges, and interactive pieces to each match evolving within the game.
2. Goals
For the player base to stay long term there most likely has to be goals for those players to achieve indefinitely. For each side of the game: Killer or Survivor, there is a page called the bloodweb. Each of these characters can tier up. Originally there were only three tiers now it has stretched a lot further. There are also holiday events held giving both sides of the game new challenges and fun new elements for a limited period of time. Constant level ups, and profile level ups allow the audience to keep the game fresh. Below shows the blood web, the Survivor screen and the level for which not only the audience is at for the role, but the characters level as well. There are also achievements that players can get by doing challenges for their specific game system related to Dead by Daylight.
3. Appealing to the Horror Fans
“ The loving tributes to classic and obscure horror franchises.” (Ryan Mikes, 2023) Dead by Daylight has collected some of the most iconic Horror characters to add to the game’s roster for players to enjoy over the years. This appeals to the horror fans and horror enthusiasts. “There’s no shortage of paid DLC expanding its roster either, though the game sensibly allows all players to play alongside any DLC characters and maps, regardless of what they own.” stated Rich Stanton in his article Dead by Daylight has fifty million players and now a boardgame adaptation. These DLCs are also filled with original characters that have been made and released by Behaviour, along with the iconic licenses. These Horror licenses are none other than Nightmare on Elm Street, Resident Evil, Stranger Things, Scream, and many more. (Below shows the Killer screen with Horror icon Michael Myers from Halloween 1978 by John Carpenter being a playable character.) Here is a link to the character roster for the game:
For more information on this asymmetrical horror multiplayer game there been have included links below to give anyone more information on the game and it’s successes and downfalls through the years. “ I’ve made some wonderful memories out of playing this game, and had many laughs out of the absurdity that can transpire. In spite of their issues and technical blunders along the way.” (Ryan Mikes, 2023)

Twins Rally Late To Beat O’s!
Orioles 6 Twins 7 W-Lawyerson (1-0) L-Gomez (1-1)
The Minnesota Twins had their first off day of the spring yesterday. The team got back to work today as the Orioles made the trip down to Fort Myers. The Orioles started the scoring in the second inning as Colton Cowser drew a one-out walk. Daz Cameron and Connor Norby followed with singles and Kenta Maeda was called for a balk, which scored a run. Jose Miranda answered when he belted a Grayson Rodriguez fastball out to left for a solo homer. The Twins woud jump ahead in the fourth when Michael Taylor lined a two-out single to left. Ryan Jeffers doubled him home to put Minnesota up by a run after four innings of play. The Orioles would bounce right back in the sixth with a Connor Norby lead-off ground-rule double to right-center. Anthony Benboom and Heston Kjerstad followed with walks. Later in the inning, Josh Lester plated a pair with a single to right and Baltimore retook the lead. The Orioles kept adding on in the seventh when Colton Cowser reached on an error by Ben Ross. Daz Cameron was hit by a pitch and Jackson Holiday delivered an RBI single to left to double the Baltimore lead. The Twins tried to inch closer in the bottom of the sixth when Will Holland reached on an error by third basemen Coby Mayo. Aaron Sabato walked and Holland reached third. Danny De Andrade hit a sacrifice fly to center to pull the Twins within a run after seven frames. The O’s would respond with a Josh Lester lead-off single in the seventh. Coby Mayo then doubled and Robert Neustrom hit a sac fly to center, which put the Orioles up by two runs. The next batter, Shayne Fontana reached on an error to plate another run. The Twins would answer again as Ben Ross led-off with a walk and Mikey Perez lined a single to center. Both runners moved up on a groundball and Will Holland doubled home a pair. The Twins would get a few gifts in the ninth as Ofreidy Gomez walked the first two batters. A couple of wild pitches tied the game at six all.. Ofreidy Gomez threw another wild pitch and Tanner Schobel scored the winning run as the Twins walked off the Orioles today.
-Final Thoughts- Kenta Maeda was a little wild, but did okay. He went 2 2/3 innings and allowed a run on thre hits with four walks and a strikeout. Locke St. John struck out his only batter to end the third, Danny Coulombe walked two and struck out three in the fourth, and Blayne Enlow retired four and gave up two runs with two walks and two strikeouts. Jordan Brink got out of the sixth, Brock Stewart struck out two in the seventh, and Austin Schulfer gave up two runs in the eighth. Cody Laweryson had a scoreless ninth to pick up the win. Kyle Farmer and Ryan Jeffers led the offense with two hits each. The Twins hit 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. Tomorrow, the Twins head up to Dunedin to play the Blue Jays. Bailey Ober will face Alek Manoah on Wednesday afternoon.

my favorite WWE matches of 1997
Though I officially started watching wrestling in 1995 (my family famously first bought SummerSlam that year, which would be my first wrestling show ever, because it was $25.00. 1995 was a bad year for wrestling), I became a regular watcher of both WWE and WCW Raw and Nitro, and was able to buy my own PPVs, around summer of 1996, when Hogan turned. The first show I bought with my own money was In Your House: Buried Alive, though I kept up with weekly TV. And, for better or worse, I've been a fan ever since.
1997 was a REAL rollercoaster year for wrestling. The NWO was becoming a bloated mess in no time at all, Bret Hart was riding high, while he and Shawn Michaels publicly hated one another, a young Rocky Maivia was slowly transforming into the most charismatic wrestler of maybe all time, a young Steve Austin has broken his neck and can only work 5 minute matches but is somehow the most OVER wrestler in the company, and by the end of the year, the Screwjob happens, Bret's in WCW, Shawn's on handfuls of SOMAs (yet main-eventing). In a lot of ways, I'm grateful, because I side-stepped all of Hogan's WWF and WCW run. But it was a tornado of a year for a business always on precarious footing, as it ever has been.
And it gave us some CRACKING matches! - The 1997 Royal Rumble I love me a Rumble, and it's REALLY hard (but not impossible) to find a bad one (1993, 1995, 1999). And I personally love one with a storyline that runs throughout, and in this case, it's the ultimate heeling of Stone Cold Steve Austin. He visibly dominates the match until he hears Bret Hart's music, and then goes into panic mode. And it furthers the characterization of Bret's hand-spun narrative as being rightfully pissed that he's being taken advantage of by the roster, screwed by the company, and booed by the fans. Fun bonus: this is also the only Rumble appearance of lucha legend Mil Mascaras, who was so full of old-school carny spirit he famously refused to let anyone else eliminate him, so he eliminated himself, pissed Vince off, and was not spoken of again on WWE TV until the 2012 Hall of Fame ceremony, where he was inducted by his huge prick nephew, Alberto del Rio. - Bret Hart vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin, WrestleMania 13 This match is considered legendary, and for good reason. The greatest technical wrestler in the company vs. the best brawler, months of build, the world's most iconic (and off-the-cuff) blade-job (so much so that the visual of Austin bleeding in the Sharpshooter going "DAAAHHHH!" became the cover for his first VHS) and the wrestling world's most exquisite double-turn. It's fun, it's thrilling, it feels at once timeless and modern. Fun fact: there's a fun version of this match you can watch with just Austin doing commentary over it, and it's entertaining as hell. A true classic, and one of the greatest 'Mania matches of all time. - Ken Shamrock vs. Vader, No Holds Barred match, In Your House: a Cold Day In Hell Vader, famously, while a big teddy bear and a for-all-accounts lovely guy outside of the ring, had a reputation of being a bit "snug" with other wrestlers. Meaning he hit a little too hard, had little self-control, and took liberties with people, especially rookies and younger guys. It's supposedly why Shawn Michaels didn't want to work a world title program with him from summer to fall of 1996, because he was "too rough." But what never occurred to Vader is that trying that with a guy who's had 2 matches but has almost 5 years of MMA experience might not be the smartest or most prudent idea. Shamrock gives Vader as much as Vader gives him in this match, and there are moments where you can tell the guys are going into business for themselves. There's a moment where Shamrock is clubbing Vader with punches, and you can hear Vader, as he's turtling up and putting his arms up to block, yell "SLOW DOWN!" and then he rolls out of the ring to catch a breather. Vader, by the end of this match, is bleeding through his mask, a product of a broken nose, which is why I assume he gives Shamrock the stiffest short-arm clothesline I've ever seen. It's brutal, it's stupid, it weaves in and out of the script SO many times like a drunk man trying to stand up straight on a canoe, and I'm fascinated by each and every instance. - Owen Hart vs. the British Bulldog, European Championship Tournament Finals, Monday Night Raw, March 3rd Somehow, a workrate classic is stuck on a rinky-dink episode of Raw from Berlin, Germany. Smith and Hart blended some of their acquired WWE-style of work with classic junior heavyweight wrestling, complete with intricate reversals and fast-paced offense that was unlike either man's designed ethos of the time. Hart's shift toward his underhanded instincts as the match wore on provided enough story to balance the beautiful grappling from two men with impressive resumes. You can feel that these two knew one another, grew up together, and most importantly, wrestled together. An honest-to-God sleeper hit, but everyone who knows this match calls it a classic. - Shawn Michaels vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin, King of the Ring It's a concept that would be beaten into the ground in short order: Tag Team Champions that hate each other's guts. John Cena, seriously, has only been tag champions with people he's feuding with. That's
not even a joke. Austin and Michaels won the belts out of mutual dislike for the Hart Foundation, and then were programmed together for a wild match at the King of the Ring, one without a winner. Early on, the two actually pieced together a tremendous wrestling match full of nifty counters (prior to Austin changing his style after August for obvious reasons), before it degenerated into chaos after both men assaulted referees in the heat of the moment. Granted, neither man could really lose this one, so the screwy finish did serve its purpose. Until that point, it's a different type of incredible Austin match. You're never so happy to see a double-DQ finish. - Owen Hart & the British Bulldog vs. Shawn Michaels & Stone Cold Steve Austin, Monday Night Raw, May 26th And now we have a match set! The previous 4 participants in a brilliant and brutal tag team match. The Tag Team championship switch marked Austin's first piece of recognized gold in WWE, in a match on free television no less. That's not to insult the match any, as it was a pay-per-view quality fracas that barely slowed down. It is a mere 14 minutes long WITH entrances, but it moves at a clip, and everyone has their working boots on. It was a harbinger of days to come for this new period in WWE's history, and the crowd ate it up.
- Taka Michinoku vs. the Great Sasuke, In Your House: Canadian Stampede What happened here? Just when you think WCW had the cruiserweights cornered, WWE pulls this shit...and then kind of ignores it for a few months. But not before importing two of Michinoku Pro's finest to have a TakeOver-length exhibition. At first, the crowd in Calgary wasn't sure what to make of the undersized performers, but it wouldn't take long to win them over. From Michinoku's hands-free springboard dive to Sasuke's beautiful Thunder Fire Powerbomb, the expansive crowd was positively hooked on the daredevils with each passing minute. Although Sasuke wouldn't be long for the company, and Michinoku's run as Light Heavyweight Champion faded as 1998 wore on, the display at Canadian Stampede was a wondrous experience. This wouldn't have looked out of place in a Chikara King of Trios tournament. - The Hart Foundation (Bret Hart, Owen Hart, Jim Neidhart, Brian Pillman, the British Bulldog) vs. Team Austin (Stone Cold Steve Austin, the Legion of Doom, Ken Shamrock and Goldust), In Your House: Canadian Stampede I would have put this match on the list for the entrances and the finish alone. The crowd is at fever static for the entire match, seriously at the level of Punk/Cena at MITB 2011. And even though the Harts are the heels, they're in Calgary, and they get rock-star level ovations for merely existing. Everyone plays it mad and delighted, and you can tell they're all having a ball. Especially Pillman, who is just magically unhinged, a template for a young Dean Ambrose during their feud with the Wyatt Family. It is a magical, unreal main event, one of the best B-ppv main events maybe of all time. Well...other than MAYBE... - Shawn Michaels vs. the Undertaker, Hell in a Cell, In Your House: Badd Blood The very first Hell in a Cell match may very well double as the greatest of its kind. What stands out to me (other than how the match ends) is just how GREAT Michaels' selling is. When he's running away, he's constantly looking around for an exit, like a scared rat. When he finally gets caught and struck, he sells almost to the level he did for Hogan at SummerSlam 2005. But while he was doing that to make Hogan's offense look stupid, he's doing it here to make Taker's offense and anger look legit, and it somehow WORKS. But as fabulous as the match and the psychology is, it somehow takes a backseat to the debut of the Undertaker's monstrous little brother Kane, finally confronting his older brother in perhaps the greatest character debut in WWE history. - Mankind vs. Kane, Survivor Series I dunno what it is about this match that does it for me. Mankind's emotional lead-up to the match, where he's sad that Uncle Paul (Bearer) left him. Maybe the fact that Kane sells like Michael Myers, not so much that he's in pain, but as if he's never been hit in the face with a steel chair, a DDT or a piledriver. Maybe it's because Mick takes more horrific bumps than he needs to to make sure Kane looks like a legit monster. Maybe it's the broken Virtua Boy lighting. But it's genuinely unlike any other Mankind, Kane or ANY match I've seen before or since. It's a perfect somehow sympathetic serial killer vs. bigger, scarier serial killer that feels nothing story in a wrestling match. I didn't even know you could DO that.

Hard to Kill preview
Kenny Omega & Doc Gallows & Karl Anderson vs. Rich Swann & Chris Sabin & Moose - When Kenny Omega won the AEW men’s world title on December 2, he completed a long-simmering heel turn by forming an alliance with Impact Wrestling executive Don Callis. Omega and Callis began showing up on both Impact and AEW programming acting like Omega is “the real world champion,” which irritated Impact world champion Rich Swann. Omega also reunited with Impact’s men’s tag team champions, Gallows and Anderson, who had already been having issues with former champs Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley.
This match was originally booked as Omega/Gallows/Anderson vs. Swann/Sabin/Shelley, but the day before the show Impact announced that “unavoidable circumstances” prevented Shelley from traveling to the show in Nashville. Shelley’s last-minute replacement is Moose, who has recently been feuding with Swann. For over eight months, Moose has been calling himself the “TNA world champion,” presumably to set up a “who’s the real champion?” match with the Impact world champion. But that seems kind of silly now that Omega and Swann are kind of doing the same thing, but with more credibility. So I was hoping they’d get Swann vs. Moose wrapped up before Swann vs. Omega got going. I certainly wasn’t expecting Moose to be involved in this match.
Because of Omega and the AEW interpromotional angle, this may well be the biggest show Impact has run in years. So Impact is motivated to deliver the best they can for whatever new audience this match will attract. The big question is whether AEW is invested enough to send a few of their guys to appear on this show for a hot angle. Any unadvertised AEW wrestler causing any kind of ruckus on this show will get people talking. But AEW and Impact seem to be taking their time with this storyline, and they may not think now is the time to drop the next bombshell plot point.
To me, the likeliest finishes are a) Omega’s team dominates and wins to get more heat, or b) Swann scores the winning fall to set up an Omega vs. Swann singles match. The best setup for that match would be Swann pinning Omega, but I don’t see that happening anytime soon. But if they sell it like Omega’s team are the heavy favorites, and that Omega’s ego is bruised by an upset even if he didn’t lose the fall, then that can still work. But then again, that was my gut feeling before Moose was added to the match. Now it feels far more likely that Moose will turn on his partners or walk out on them, which could change the entire complexion of the match. That uncertainty has me pretty interested in how things unfold.
Eddie Edwards vs. Sami Callihan - This is billed as a “barbed wire massacre” match, so the ring ropes will be replaced with barbed wire, and objects wrapped in barbed wire will be provided at ringside to use as weapons. Obviously, in this sort of match nobody is going to be disqualified or counted out.
I can’t say I understand the storyline leading up to this. Edwards and Callihan had a vicous feud following a 2018 incident where Callihan botched a spot and hit Edwards in the face with a baseball bat. Then they seemed to go down separate paths, and then recently Sami and Ken Shamrock started picking on Edwards and his wife for some reason. The idea now appears to be that these two will never be able to settle it, except that they both clearly put it all aside for the better part of a year. In any case, they’ve run out of hardcore stips to use in their matches, so here we are.
I believe this is the fourth “barbed wire massacre” match Impact has booked. The first two were on pay-per-view in 2005 and 2008. The third was taped for television in 2018, but was only streamed on Twitch because it was “too violent for TV.” I remember watching the first one (Abyss vs. Sabu) in 2005 and being too squeamish to enjoy the performance. In matches like this you have to hope the wrestlers know what they’re doing and don’t go too far just to create a “moment.” But with Callihan and Edwards, that doesn’t apply, so I just have to hope the match was taped in advance, so that if one of them was gravely injured we’d have seen reports about it by now.
Both of these guys are pushed as top acts in Impact, but Callihan always seems to come up short in big matches like this. I can’t see either guy accepting defeat and letting the feud end. But if this is really the final chapter, then I think Edwards needs the last laugh more than Sami does.
Deonna Purrazzo vs. Taya Valkyrie - Purrazzo is defending the Impact women’s championship. Valkyrie held the title from January 2019 to January 2020--the longest single reign in the title’s history--but after losing the belt she spent 2020 preoccupied in comedy stuff with Rosemary and John E. Bravo. So Taya’s doing the whole “you’ve only done so well as champion because I haven’t gotten around to facing you” bit.
I haven’t been able to get into Impact’s women’s division. I suppose it’s because so many of the characters seem superficial and unserious. Like, Purrazzo is presented as a solid in-ring performer, but outside the ring she’s the kind of self-absorbed chicken heel who plots with her sidekick to devise ways to duck upcoming challengers. Impact is full of characters like that, but the women’s division in particular has almost nothing else. Hell, Taya was playing that role when she was the heel champion. So I can’t say I’m very motivated to see these two fight. I also don’t really believe we’re going to get a title change at this point.
Manik vs. Chris Bey vs. Rohit Raju - This is a three-way match for the X division championship, so whoever scores the first fall over any opponent will win Manik’s title. This story started with Bey as champion and Raju as his crony, but Raju was the one henchman in wrestling history who managed to manipulate his boss to his advantage, so Raju won the title from Bey in a three-way with TJP. Raju was so worried about losing his belt to TJP that he arranged a stipulation where TJP could no longer challenge him. Then Raju issued an open challenge answered by Manik...the masked man character originally played by TJP. So now Manik is the champion and definitely not TJP, but Raju and Bey aren’t buying it.
I don’t really care who wins this. Every time they do a multi-man match for the X title, they demonstrate that multi-man matches don’t settle anything, because there’s always somebody who’s like “Well I wasn’t pinned, so I should get another match!” So if, for example, Bey pins Raju, you know it’s just going to lead to Bey vs. TJP and/or Manik later. Except Raju is going to weasel his way into the situation, for another three-way. (Unless Crazzy Steve is free that weekend, and it’ll be a four-way.) There’s no direction here. The best thing that could happen to the X title (aside from retiring it as an obsolete relic) is if some AEW guys came in to fight for it. And I don’t expect that to happen soon.
Havok & Neveah vs. Tasha Steelz & Kiera Hogan - This match is the tournament final to decide which team will be awarded the Impact women’s tag team championship. The title was originally introduced in 2009, but a lack of interest in booking it properly led to ODB teaming with Eric Young to win the belts in March 2012. The last title defense I can find was in May 2012, although it took over a year for Impact to officially abandon the championship.
I can see why Impact was motivated to bring the title back, since throughout 2020 most of their women’s roster was paired off in various alliances: Taya Valkyrie & Rosemary, Deonna Purrazzo & Kimber Lee, Kylie Rae & Susie, etc. But just because most of the women on the roster have a natural partner doesn’t mean there are enough women to fill out a tag team division. I suspect these two teams are going to end up rematching a lot for the tag belts, while the teams they eliminated in the tournament go back to focusing on singles action. If just having women’s tag titles automatically meant expanding the women’s roster and pushing more women, then that would be great. But we’ve seen that it doesn’t work that way, not only in WWE, but also the last time Impact tried it.
My gut feeling is that Steelz and Hogan have more future potential, so I’d probably prefer to put the title on them. But Havok and Neveah have the edge in size and meanness, and I could easily see Impact wanting them to dominate as the champions a la the Road Warriors.
Eric Young & Cody Deaner & Joe Doering vs. Cousin Jake & Rhino & Tommy Dreamer - This is being called an “old school rules” match, which is Impact’s way of saying “ex-ECW guys are in this so we want to say ‘extreme rules’ but WWE trademarked that.” Basically there are no count-outs or disqualifications. Cody and Jake were a tag team until Deaner became obsessed with proving himself against Young; when he failed, he turned on Jake and joined Young’s group. Rhino tried to help Jake out, but it wasn’t until Tommy Dreamer got involved that they were able to even the odds. I’m pretty sure Young’s faction is just getting started and they are going to destroy the babyfaces here.
Ethan Page vs. The Karate Man - Page is one half of The North, which spent most of 2019-2020 dominating the men’s tag team division. Karate Man is the alter ego of...Ethan Page. So he’s fighting himself. That’s always fun.
The backstory here is that the North struggled to recover from losing the tag title earlier this year, and Page grew increasingly desperate to convince Josh Alexander that they could regroup. The tipping point was when Alexander was wrestling Brian Myers and Karate Man interfered, causing Josh to get disqualified. Page did a skit where he tried to get therapy from Karate Man, before they decided to fight instead.
The bigger story behind all this is that Page’s contract with Impact Wrestling reportedly expired at the end of 2020, so he’s technically not even with the promotion anymore. Reportedly, this “match” was taped weeks ago. Just because Page is a free agent doesn’t mean he won’t simply re-sign with Impact at any moment. But this looks to be his swan song before he moves on...or the pivotal angle that sets up how he’s staying.
Obviously this is going to have to be pre-taped with Patty Duke Show special effects. I’m not sure if that means it’ll be a ~*~cinematic match~*~ though. They could do a weird brawl in a weird location like the Boneyard Match or Stadium Stampede, or they could just do it on the normal set in a normal ring and not do anything weird except the split screen effects. I honestly don’t know what to expect.
Rosemary & Crazzy Steve vs. Tenille Dashwood & Kaleb with a K - Rosemary and Steve used to be in The Decay together years ago, and occasionally Impact remembers that and has them interact. Tenille is formerly Emma from WWE, playing a stuck-up Instagram influencer gimmick with Kaleb as her personal assistant. Rosemary already beat Dashwood in the setup to this match, and I don’t think Kaleb is going to last long against Steve, so I guess the weirdo babyfaces will triumph.
Josh Alexander vs. Brian Myers - This is scheduled for the pre-show. As noted above, Alexander and Ethan Page had some issues that came to a head when Page caused Alexander to lose a match to Myers. So Josh wants to avenge that loss. It’s kinda funny to me that the serious match about wins and losses and professionalism is on the pre-show while the “Ethan Page beats himself up” comedy is on the main show. But anyway, it seems like Alexander is headed for a singles push, so he might as well get that started with a win.

Every Upcoming Blumhouse New Horror Movie For 2021 and Beyond
https://ift.tt/2Jkmo81
In just over a decade Blumhouse Productions has gone from a very smart agile indie to possibly the most significant horror production company out there. It’s slate is huge, it most quickly and cheaply, trusts in its creators and favours originality and genuine scares. Though the pandemic has meant certain release dates have had to move, or not as yet locked in, it’s clear the Blumhouse juggernaut is showing no signs of slowing. It has several film in production, with release dates set for 2021 and even more movies in various states of development.
We’ve rounded up the latest on all of Blumhouse’s upcoming horror movies. Note: we have not included TV, we haven’t included anything which is clearly not a horror and the projects which have been in development hell for many years are summarised briefly at the end. We’ll keep this updated so pop back for all your Blumhouse needs.
Image from 2013’s The Purge
The Forever Purge
Release date: 9 July 2021
This fifth installment of the The Purge franchise will reportedly be the last with creator and writer James DeMonaco promising a ‘really cool’ end to the series. This movie was originally scheduled for a summer 2020 release – filming wrapped in February 2020 – but dates inevitably shifted and now it’s aiming for Summer 2021. While DeMonaco wrote the script, the movie is directed by Everardo Gout who’s best known for his work on National Geographic series Mars. The movie stars Ana de la Reguera and Tenoch Huerta with Josh Lucas and Will Patton.
Welcome to the Blumhouse (second batch)
Release date: 2021 tbc
This imprint which launched in October and streams on Amazon Prime will get another four installments in 2021. The series once again aims to give a platform to upcoming and underrepresented voices. The movies are:
Madres
A pregnant Mexican-American woman and her husband move to a migrant community in California where she starts to experience strange visions and phenomena. Is it the legendary curse? Or is something more sinister going on? This is a first feature from Ryan Zaragoza and stars Tenoch Huerta (The Forever Purge) Ariana Guerra, Evelyn Gonzalez, Kerry Cahill, and Elpidia Carrillo.
The Manor
Residents of a nursing home are haunted by supernatural forces in this film from Soulmate director Axelle Carolyn. Barbara Hershey stars as a woman who’s recently moved into the home following a stroke who suspects malevolent beings are at prey and needs to convince everyone around her she doesn’t belong there at all in order to escape.
Black as Night
Teenage misfits battle vampires who are attacking New Orleans’ disenfranchised in this feature from Maritte Lee Go which sounds like it might appeal to a young female demographic as well as the usual Blumhouse fans. It stars Asjha Cooper, Fabrizio Guido, Craig Tate, Keith David, Mason Beauchamp, Abbie Gayle and Frankie Smith.
Bingo
Set among an eldery community in the Barrio of Oak Springs, Bingo sees a stubborn group of friends lead by the matriarchal Lupita who keeps them together a family, face their toughest threat yet when they discover their Bingo hall is to be sold to a powerful force. Gigi Saul Guerrero, who directed an episode of The Purge TV show and also a segment of Blum’s Into The Dark horror series takes the helm.
Halloween Kills
Release date: October 15 2021
Originally planned for October 2020, this follow up to David Gordon Green’s 2018 Halloween reboot (which was a direct sequel to John Carpenter’s 1978 Halloween) will now arrive in October 2021 to carry on the saga of Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) and her family in their ongoing battle with Michael Myers. The previous installment was a smart addition to the franchise dealing with themes of PTSD in the wake of what Laurie experienced as a teen so we have high hopes for this. Blum has said the movie will be “Huge” and “Intense” and will feature returning legacy characters from the original.
Halloween Ends
Release date: October 14 2022
The third part of the reboot trilogy is planned for 2022 and will bring to a close this part of the saga. Ahead of the release of Halloween Kills it’s difficult to predict which direction part three will take us in but if IMDb is to be believed Laurie, her daughter Karen (Judy Greer) and Granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak) will be in a final showdown with The Shape.
Paranormal Activity 7 (as yet untitled)
Release date: 2022 TBC
Announced back in 2019, Blumhouse is supposedly planning a seventh installment to the found footage franchise, with Oren Peli the creator of the original Paranormal Activity attached to write. No plot details have been released yet and it’s possible the unexpected events of 2020 have affected plans for this. The latest in the franchise – 2015 Paranormal Activity: Ghost Dimension is the least profitable of the series but still grossed $79M worldwide from a budget of $10M.
Vengeance
Release date: 2021
This is the directorial debut of actor and comedian BJ Novak (who was one of the writers on the US version of The Office, where he also played Ryan Howard), which follows a radio host from New York (also played by Novak) who travels down South in an attempt to solve the murder of his girlfriend and discover what happened to her. The movie co stars Logan’s Boyd Holbrook as well as Ashton Kutcher and Issa Rae. The production began in March 2020 but was put on hold due to COVID19, but has started back up again and Blum says they’ve almost finished shooting what he describes as “a cool, offbeat movie”.
Five Nights At Freddy’s
Status: Pre-production
Currently in pre-production is this adaptation based on the popular horror video game franchise where a night security worker at a restaurant called Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza is terrorised by sentient and murderous animatronic characters who come alive after dark. The movie was originally optioned by Warner Bros with Gil Keenan to direct but is now with Blumhouse under Chris Columbus. Despite delays, Blum is confident this is still very much on the cards telling Inverse “”It’s still active. We haven’t quite figured it out, but we’re getting closer every day.” The videogame franchise featured several sequels and spin offs so if Blum and Columbus can make this a hit theres every possibility for multiple sequels.
Wolfman
Status: Pre-production
After the massive success of The Invisible Man, long time Blumhouse collaborator Leigh Whannell has signed on to tackle another classic Universal monster with the Wolfman. This is one of the strangest but most exciting titles on Blumhouse’s slate with Ryan Gosling attacked to star as a man who is cursed after being bitten by a werewolf. Gosling is a massive talent, Oscar nominated twice, who is selective with his projects so we can only imagine the script must be something special.
Mother Nature
Status: Pre-Production
Announced back in May Mother Nature marks the directorial debut of Jamie Lee Curtis herself. An eco-horror co-written by Curtis and Russell Goldman who’s head of development at Curtis’ company Comet Pictures, this is the first film in a three year first look deal Comet Pictures has with Blumhouse. Details are scant but it looks like this will be themed around climate change. “I’m 61 and my motto now is: ‘If not now, when, if not me, who?’” Curtis told EW. Well quite.
Untitled John Ridley Paranormal Thriller
Status: Pre-production
Novelist, screenwriter and director John Ridley is set to write and direct this chiller based on this article entitled ‘Project Poltergeist’ which tells the true story of a young boy who is purported terrified by supernatural occurrences in a public housing project in the 1960s. “This is an incredible true-life narrative of a young man dealing with horrors – both paranormal and racially systemic — in a community that is scarred by hate, yet ultimately brought together by hope,” said Ridley, speaking to TheWrap. “I really appreciate Blumhouse’s commitment to telling stories that seek to entertain audiences even as it challenges them.”
Patrick Wilson in Insidious
Insidious 5
Status: Pitch
It’s been ten years since the very scary first installment of Insidious, one of the franchises that really helped put Blumhouse productions on the map, and the series shows no sign of disappearing into the Further just yet. A fifth film is apparently on the cards with star Patrick Wilson set to direct. The film will focus on the Lambert family ten years on as son Dalton prepares to go to college. “We’ve had a lot of luck with first-time directors who are actors, even Jordan Peele (Get Out) or Joel Edgerton on The Gift,” Blum told Den of Geek.
Caroline Ward in Host
Untitled Rob Savage project
Status: Pre-production
Sure the defining horror movie of 2020 has to be Host, a low budget indie written, shot and released in just 12 weeks during lockdown, a Zoom horror which perfectly captured the zeitgeist. After rave reviews, Savage and his team, screenwriters Gemma Hurley and Jed Shepherd and producer Douglas Cox signed with Blumhouse for a three picture deal. In typical quick and dirty style they’ve already begun work on the first of these features, which will reportedly be scarier and more ambitious than Host. Definitely one to watch.
Untitled Dracula project
Status: Treatment
Announced back in March, Jennifer’s Body and The Invitation director Karyn Kusama is attached to another Universal Monster project – a new adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Kusama told the Kingcast podcast that it would be a fairly faithful adaptation which will lean into the idea of multiple voices and points of view to tell the story, and perhaps present a slightly different version of the Count himself. “I would just say in some respect this is gonna be an adaptation called Dracula but it’s perhaps not the same kind of romantic hero that we’ve seen in past adaptations of Dracula,” said Kusama.
Untitled The Thing Remake/Untitled John Carpenter/Blumhouse Project
Status: Pitch
January of 2020 saw rumours that Blumhouse was working on a new iteration of The Thing, based on the (relatively) recently unearthed longer version of the story the movie is based on Who Goes There?, by John W. Campbell Jr. – the longer version is called Frozen Hell. Though there are two separate entries on IMDb for this project they are clearly the same ‘Thing’ – the ‘Untitled John Carpenter/Blumhouse Project’ suggest the Halloween 2018 director David Gordon Green maybe attached.
Firestarter
Status: Script
This new adaptation of the Stephen King novel has been kicking about since 2010 but there has been some movement recently. Zac Efron has been cast in an as yet undisclosed role and Blum has promised a “faithful” adaptation. At one point Akiva Goldsman was attached to direct, then later Fatih Akin but as things currently stand The Vigil director Keith Thomas is the frame to re-tell this story about a young girl with the telekinetic power to set things on fire. There was a previous adap of this story released in 1984 starring Drew Barrymore and directed by Mark L. Lester, with a miniseries Firestarter: Rekindled broadcast on the sci-fi channel in 2002, so this sits within remake territory.
Untitled Elizabeth Moss Project
Status: Pitch
This is a proposed adaptation of Virginia Feito’s novel, Mrs. March, with Moss producing and set to star. The novel will be published in 2021 and has been likened to Shirley Jackson. According to the synopsis it follows an upper Eastside housewife “who unravels when she begins to suspect the detestable protagonist of her husband’s latest bestselling novel is based on her”. Moss’s Love and Squalor productions with partner with Blumhouse on the project
Also in development:
Blumhouse has a multitude of other projects at different stages of development many of which likely won’t ever see the light of day. Here what else has been mooted.

Untitled Chris Hardwick/Blumhouse Project
Status: Pitch
Collab with comedian and actor Hardwick, no news since October 2017
Untitled Dee Rees Horror Project

Halloween 2020 - Day 8 - Body Bags (1993)
Each corpse has been individually wrapped to ensure freshness
I can only assume I was sifting through John Carpenter’s filmography when I found this, an anthology film in the vein of Creepshow, The Twilight Zone etc. Apparently this was meant to be a TV show but a full run didn’t pan out so they cobbled together a handful of finished stories and put out this TV movie instead. This is perhaps more interesting for the sheer number of strange cameos in it, like a who’s who of horror directors. John Carpenter himself plays a coroner who serves as a host of sorts, these anthology films often have a framing device that link all the stories together and this is Carpenter looking at various body bags in his morgue and telling us the story behind them, leading into the films themselves.
But there’s also Tobe Hooper, Wes Craven, Sam Raimi and Roger Corman that show up throughout the different segments. There are also small parts for Twiggy and Debbie Harry. I didn’t realize Debbie Harry had such a vast filmography, she was in Videodrome when I watched that a few years ago but she seems to have been acting since the 70’s.
I say the cast is more interesting as the stories themselves are all pretty dull and overly familiar. In the opener, “The Gas Station”, a young lady starts a new job working the graveyard shift at a remote gas station and has to deal with the suspense and fear that comes with being alone in the middle of nowhere whilst strangers come and go. She hears on the radio that a psychopath is on the loose in Haddonfield, Illinois which is obviously the setting for Halloween so I wondered if that was just a nod to Carpenter’s famous series or maybe some sort of shared universe thing. Turns out however that the psychopath isn’t Michael Myers at all but someone who masquerades as one of her colleagues who worked the shift prior to hers but actually killed off the real person before hiding out nearby in order to kill her too. That twist is sort of neat in an urban legend sort of way but overall it’s nothing you haven’t seen a thousand times before with some axe wielding maniac out to kill the last pretty girl left standing.
The second story centers on Richard Coberts, an older gentleman who is suffering a crisis of condifence due to his thinning hair. Worried that his girlfriend might leave him for someone younger with more flowing locks, he tries everything to try and mask his growing bald spot; the patented combover, a professional hair stylist and basically everything vaguely hair related from his local chemist.
Including a rather strange one in the form of extract of lamb fetus. Gross.
Whilst nothing seems to be working, he keeps seeing adverts on TV for a new hair clinic run by Dr. Lock, played by David Warner. This all reminds me slightly of that segment of Cat’s Eye where James Woods visits the slightly shadowy health clinic in order to get help in quitting smoking. Not quite the same as the motives are a bit different but both are vaguely about self improvement and I remember the company in that one being a bit more outwardly suspect.
DIMOXINIL! Rich is offered a range of new hairstyles and settles in ‘The Stallion’, long flowing locks that make him look like the aging lead singer of an 80’s hair metal band. Only, not everything is quite what it seems.
His hair grows at an exponential rate, even in places he normally wouldn’t get hair. Plus he seems to be getting sick with sores all over his face. He looks more and more like The Wolfman, even if he doesn’t have Talbot’s degree of depression.
Turns out his hair is actually now little parasitic creatures that are taking over his body and the hair clinic is actually a front for aliens from a distant galaxy looking to slowly overthrow Earth by infecting host bodies by preying the narcissistic members of society who would stroke their own ego by getting this hair treatment.
Well I certainly wasn’t expecting that. This one isn’t particularly interesting either, though there is something amusing to see this change in character in Richard pre/post hair, this level of confidence he gains to the point where he’s practicing all these lines in the mirror. “I’m sorry, you can’t touch it. If I let you touch it then I’d have to let everyone else touch it too!”
Often with these anthology films they seem to be strongest with the opening and closing segment and that’s certainly true here at last for the latter with the third and final segment titled simply ‘Eye’ in which Mark Hammill plays a baseball player who is going through something of a career resurgence and there is even talk of him getting picked up by a major league team.
Hammill is rocking the kind of moustache I remember him having in that brief cameo in Sleepwalkers. I guess I just have that image of him being the baby faced Luke Skywalker but the moustache makes him look like 20 years older. Granted this is like 20 years since Star Wars but you get my point.
Trouble strikes though when he’s driving home late one night in the middle of a storm and has to swerve to avoid a deer, promptly crashing his car and taking a shard of glass directly to the eye. Christ.
Luckily, there’s a experimental surgery that one of his doctors wants to try to replace his eye with a donor one.
So everything in his life seems to be back on the up again, he even finds out his wife is pregnant and she starts to read up taking care of the wee one in a book written by a Dr. Spock. Huh, I guess if you follow the tips in that book then your baby will live long and prosper.
Only, it seems like maybe someone is wrong with this eye as slugger here keeps having weird visions like a dead body rising up out of the dirt in his back garden. This is where I thought maybe they were going for an angle of the donor body coming back to life to claim it’s eye back but what they’re actually going for is this eye came from the body of a recently executed serial killer and the eye is taking over his mind, making him more aggressive and giving him flashbacks to the killer’s life. The immediate thought is the Hell Toupee segment in Treehouse of Horror IX in which Homer has a hair transplant from Snake and Snake’s personality starts coming through in Homer before starting to kill off the witnesses that testified against him. Even that is cited as drawing inspiration from the 1989 film Shocker and an episode of the 1985 Amazing Stories TV show so clearly it’s a very well used idea. Actually, you would kinda get Hell Toupee exactly if you mixed the hair segment and this one.
Hammill’s performance is what really ramps this segment up compared to the other two, especially when the eye really takes hold and he becomes really deranged. I suppose it’s only to be expected coming from a guy who is beloved for his vocal turns as The Joker. His facial expressions help a lot, as does the makeup work done from stuff like his pale, bruised face in the aftermath of the accident to the bloodshot eye.
This is definitely among the weaker of the anthology films I’ve seen and one I would recommend skipping if not for Hammill. Check that part out but avoid the rest.

recently watched HBO’s Barry. It’s one that’s been on my list for a while and it did not disappoint. It hits on a lot of Jekyll and Hyde notes with the duality of it’s main character Barry, who is part hit man part actor in both seasons.
The strongest part of the series, in my opinion, is the writing. Bill Hader acts as the primary writer and director for the series, along with co-creator Alec Berg. It’s best described as a tragicomedy, often light and surprisingly humorous, but equally dark and gritty, unapologetic about the murders Barry must commit to maintain his lifestyle. So much of it plays into the LA notion of trying on faces and new identities, as Barry finds himself working a job there in the pilot episode, unsure about his path as a murderer-for-hire. Each episode oscillates between light and dark, the right decision and the wrong one, truth-telling and lying. It’s thrilling, with a cast full of hard-hitters from Bill Hader’s convincingly dramatic and complex Barry, to Henry Winkler’s role as the narcissistic acting coach Gene Cousineau, to Anthony Carrigan’s charming take on the Chechen mobster, NoHo Hank.
I’ve lost a bit of steam on why this show is good. But, essentially, it seems to me that it’s an environment the whole cast and crew thrives in, and that gives a great payoff for viewers. The plot is always twisting away from what one expects, some things that could take up a whole season are resolved in a matter of minutes, or vice versa. The jokes are delightful, and most importantly to me, believable in a natural conversation, and the acting is rock solid. Sarah Goldberg’s character Sally acts as one of the many positive foils to the negative energy on the show, acting as a spitfire in a rather (purposely) terrible group of actors in the acting class. The dream-team collaboration aspect I admire so much about the show-runners is described well in a panel I watched yesterday. In it, Hader touches on the real-life way he worked out a scene with Goldberg, as well as the overall energy of the show, all which lends to an excellent production.
Similar to Hader’s work with Seth Myers, Fred Armisen, and John Mulaney on both SNL and Documentary Now!, it is clear everyone is truly working hard on something great, and having a great time doing it. Barry has the heart of a passion project but the breakneck energy of some of the best HBO dramas that have graced screens in recent years. It’s light and fun, but also deeply thought-provoking and symbolic in many ways. It asks so many big questions to its characters; Who do I want to be? , Am I living a lie? , Am I making the right decisions? , Do I protect myself or the people I love?
Ultimately it’s fantastic, and I cannot recommend it enough. It’s deeply inspiring. I suppose I have to say that, as I’ve been writing pseudo-reviews as of late, but it is. Also if you don’t think Bill Hader can pull off a dramatic role, you’re sorely mistaken.
